walking safety tips

WALK ON SIDEWALKS WHEREVER AVAILABLE.
If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic and as far from traffic as possible.

BE VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES & DRESS TO BE SEEN!
Wear light/bright colored clothing during the early morning or later evening hours. Wear REFLECTIVE materials or use a flashlight when it is dark.

BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS
Watch for:   Bike riders, water, cracks in pavement, other hazards in your path.
Be especially cautious of driveways -ost drivers are watching for oncoming cars, not walkers.

KEEP ALERT! 
Don’t be distracted by electronic devices that take your eyes and ears off the road.

WALK WITH A BUDDY.
Buddies are great motivators and help to make the time more enjoyable. There is always safety in numbers, but if walking alone be sure to tell someone your route and what time you expect to return.

BRING A CELL PHONE AND ALWAYS HAVE YOUR I.D.

CARRY A WALKING STICK TO FEND OFF A POSSIBLE ANIMAL

BRING WATER!!
